In September 2023, I took the huge step of leaving behind more than 30 years of continuous employment in education to start the journey of setting up my own business as a leadership coach and educational consultant.
I researched different routes to training and accreditation and, following a well-deserved recommendation, met the amazing Katherine Powell to find out more about her training - Lead Without Limits: EMCC Foundation and Practitioner Awards in Coaching. I leaped in with enthusiasm and started the programme in September 2023. It has been amazing - genuinely some of the best training I have ever done. I have also met some fantastic colleagues along the way.
I loved working in education, both as a teacher and as a leader, but after 30 years, felt like I needed a change of direction and an opportunity to really focus on what really inspires me, and also what I believe I am really good at.
I have always taken great pleasure in supporting others to develop in their roles. As a teacher, subject leader, English consultant and Headteacher, I’ve loved learning about the craft of teaching and learning and used coaching and mentoring to enable others to reflect and develop their practice. As an executive Headteacher and system leader, I learnt the joy of spotting and nurturing leadership talent and using research and my experience of leading in a range of contexts to work alongside leaders at all levels to help them excel in their roles.
So now, as a self-employed leadership coach and educational consultant, I am able to narrow my focus on just these aspects of my role. I can focus on enabling and empowering others to flourish - either in their roles as leaders or in nurturing their personal wellbeing. I work with organisations to provide advice, support, challenge and scrutiny to enable them to identify priorities and a clear plan for improvement. I feel so lucky.
I still love working with colleagues in schools and educational organisations. I am a chair of governors at a local primary school, and also inspect Church of England schools under the SIAMS Framework. In all these ways I love working with schools, federations and trusts.
I am hoping that with time, I will also be able to build my coaching client base in other professions. I am currently offering a limited number of free coaching programmes for leaders in other industries. Please DM me for more information.
