"People will forget what you said,
People will forget what you did,
But people will never forget
How you made them feel.”
- Maya Angelou
I love this quote so much. It really sums up effective leadership in my view. Thanks to the brilliant Adele Currie for sharing this graphic recently.
I believe that it is HOW we conduct ourselves, informed by our vision and values, which is most impactful – far more so than the orchestration of any specific knowledge or implementation of any intervention.
Whilst school leaders need to be well-informed about subject and pedagogy, and how we adapt these to meet the needs of all learners, leaders also need a crucial set of behaviours and attributes to inspire and lead others effectively. This can be described as emotional intelligence (EQ).
🤔 Consider the most inspiring leader you’ve ever met. How did they inspire you?
🤔 Do you believe in this cycle? Which of these are most important to you?
🤔 Could the development of emotional intelligence in leaders improve the current crisis in teacher retention?
Join in the conversation and share your thoughts. I'd love to hear from you.
