"Lack of confidence kills more dreams than lack of ability.”

I came across this quote from James Clear recently and it really resonated with me personally, and also with the experiences that some of my clients have shared.  Unfortunately, I sometimes let my lack of confidence stop me from doing things that I want to achieve.  A good example of this is posting on social media.

I am absolutely loving running my own business - I am passionate about coaching leaders, and I am receiving some really great, positive feedback.  It's so rewarding knowing that coaching sessions are helping others to achieve their goals and to grow insight.   Providing consultancy to schools and trusts has been fantastic, and I love knowing that I am helping them to reflect and to make changes that will benefit both the children and the adults working in that organisation.

However, I know that in order to make others aware of my work, and to learn from my peers, I need to maintain networking and post on social media.

Whilst I thrive from working with people, and am always curious about their lives and experiences, I have always been more comfortable in smaller groups, or with listening and observing rather than talking about myself. I was quite shy as a child, and over the years have grown my confidence in certain contexts - with friends and family, and through my experience of teaching and school and trust leadership - however, some of my innate shyness remains, especially in unfamiliar contexts.

This personal experience has allowed me a real insight into the confidence issues that some of my clients face. I can understand the barriers that they are facing, but also know that in order to overcome these, you do have to be courageous and put yourself outside of your comfort zone.

Posting on social media is still relatively new for me, and I struggle with thinking that I have anything useful to say to others. I am definitely outside of my comfort zone, but I am going to be courageous, and keep on trying. As James Clear says, “Lack of confidence kills more dreams than lack of ability.”

I hope that this post helps one other person today to be courageous and to overcome a barrier created by their lack of confidence.

Let’s go chase our dreams!
