Do you have a preferred leadership style? Does it work for all of your team members?
How do you adapt your style in different situations or when working with different team members?
I worked with a client last week who is leading a team of managers who all have their own disparate traits and leadership styles. We discussed the strategies that my client has to employ to get the best out of each of his team members.
· Some members of his team are rather laid back, whilst others are very motivated.
· Some are quiet and make minimal contributions to meetings, whilst others dominate.
· Some members of the team are open to new ideas, whilst others resist change.
This led my client to consider how he navigates implementing change with this diverse group. My client realised that he needed to use different strategies to get the best out of each of his team members. He recognised that he couldn’t use a single launch meeting for his team to create change, but would need to combine this with a range of strategies with individuals in his team to motivate and inspire them and to get them on board with his vision.
