A visit to Kinderdijk

My working holiday continues with beautiful weather yesterday. 🌞

We had a lovely visit to Kinderdijk in Holland today – a UNESCO heritage site.  We learnt all about how the Dutch people are masters at managing water – originally using windmills to pump out excess water and drain the land.

Over 40% of the country is below sea level.  Even now, if the water was left unmanaged for three months, most of the west of Holland would be back under water.  Of course, they now have modern pumping stations, but interesting, these have a far bigger impact on the environment than the windmills which have no real environmental impact.

If you’re visiting Holland I would absolutely recommend a visit.

Right back to work now! 😊
